From anxiety, mental health, and confidence issues to autism, ADHD, and more complex needs, all are welcome at True Colours Theatre.

Everyone is looking for a place to belong in this world. But your child stands out in a crowd.
They’ve been told they are too loud or too quiet.
They have “quirks”. They have needs that don’t align with mainstream schooling. Your child is a bit more complex than the world wants them to be.
You’ve heard it all. That doesn’t mean your child doesn’t belong. It means that they belong with us at TCT. We are choosing your child for the team. We want them in our friend group. We see them for everything that they could be, if just given the chance to be themselves without worrying about social stigma, judgment, or fear.
We see their strengths, talents, and possibilities,
not their “other-ness”. You’ve found a place to belong at True Colours Theatre (TCT).

you appropriately.
Our place is your place.
Growing up, TCTCS Founder Alisar Taylor felt out of step with other kids. She always felt just a little bit different. She found her place in music and theatre. It wasn’t until she was diagnosed with high-functioning Autism and ADHD as an adult that she could put her finger on what made her so different.
Right after uncovering her own diagnosis, her niece was diagnosed with a life-limiting illness that also limited her physical abilities.
These twin events became the catalyst for the creation of True Colours Theatre in 2014. It had always been a dream. Now it was a mission.
Filling the gap left by institutional blindness to the abilities and talents of kids who break the mold, True Colours Theatre Company and School has created a place for kids who just “feel different”.
Students here have the freedom to be who they truly are without judgment, stigma, or preconceived ideas of what is possible in dance, drama, song, and personal expression.
At True Colours Theatre Company and School, everything is possible

“I love how all the kids…all support and accept one another.”
I thought TCTCS would help with Ethan’s confidence after going through something that knocked it away. The teachers are all lovely and he enjoys being with friends, having fun, and feeling calm. I love how all the kids can be who they are and they all support and accept one another. I love when he sees what he can do. He loves coming and he feels accepted by everyone. – Ethan’s Mum

Our Mission:
To create in our pupils and performers a foundation of confidence, friendship, and acceptance through performing arts classes. We accept children and young people of all abilities into our theatre company and school.
At True Colours Theatre Company and School, we strive to create a caring, warm, and welcoming environment to cultivate acceptance and inclusion.
Our students deserve a safe place to thrive without fear of judgment or stigma.
DIY SOS to the Rescue!
In 2023, in recognition of all the hard work put in by the team at TCTCS, the North Tyneside Council awarded the company with a building to create a new home for themselves.
The building, the former boys club in Wallsend would need major repairs before it would be habitable. Just as TCTCS was starting to strategise around fundraising, DIY SOS put out the call, looking for dance companies who needed help refurbishing their buildings.
And we WON!

We create confident kids.
When you join us at True Colours Theatre Company and School, you enter a world of possibilities for every student.
To each according to their ability. Every student is placed according to their ability and need, not only their age, allowing them to build confidence and grow their skills at their own pace.
Friendship first, performance second. We always put our students and building up their confidence first. When they are ready to perform we truly let them shine in showcases and public performances throughout the year.
Let them see it so they can be it. Our peer leadership program gives us the opportunity to build leaders within our students. There is no telling what they can accomplish if given a chance.
As a parent, you are not alone. Isolation isn’t just a problem for the kids…isolation happens for parents too. True Colours is not just a school but a network of families and parents who can lean on each other, because we get it.
